Floyd is a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives (F.I.LEX) and a member of the Law Society’s Mental Health Review Tribunal Panel. He has practised in the area of Mental Health Law since 1995. He began his legal career in 1985 working in the Magistrates Court Service, before in 1989 joining a small criminal law firm in North London. He was a fee earner specialising in preparing Crown Court Defence Criminal Cases. He was also an accredited Police Station Representative and a Police Station Duty Solicitor Representative. In 1998 he began to exclusively practise Mental Health Law. He moved to Christian Khan Solicitors in 2000, a leading Human Rights firm of solicitors where he headed the Mental Health Department and was an Associate with partner level responsibilities. In recent years he has utilised his criminal law experience in focusing on forensic mental health cases. He has extensive experience as an advocate representing patients before the Mental Health Tribunal and regularly represents patients detained under forensic and civil sections of the Mental Health Act in conditions of high and medium security. He has an interest in all aspects of mental health law and has been a committee member of the Mental Health Lawyers Association. Reported cases include: R (on the application of SC) v Mental Health Review Tribunal and the Secretary of State for Health [2005] EWHC 17 (Admin) [2005] M.H.L.R. 31; R. (on the application of LI) v Mental Health Review Tribunal [2004] EWHC 51 (Admin). He remains extremely committing to helping vulnerable individuals with mental disorders and his current practice continues to include representation of patients detained under the Mental Health Act. In addition, he assists in the expanding Mental Health Capacity Act work of the department. Away from the law he has a keen interest in history, photography and technology He has an interest in travel and is an experienced martial arts practitioner.
