Admitted 1989 - Sophy has been a member of the Law Society’s Mental Health Review Tribunal Panel since 1996. She advises and represents users of Mental Health services and their families and Carers about detention in hospital, treatment and afterCare. She also acts in cases where the Court is asked to decide the best interests of people who do not have the capacity to take important decisions themselves. She sits as a part-time Legal Member of the Mental Health Review Tribunal. Recent cases include JE v (1) DE (by his litigation friend the Official Solicitor) (2) SCC (3) EW[2006]EWHC 3459 (Fam).

In 2010 Sophy was  the winner of the Legal Aid Practitioner's Group Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year award in the Mental Health category.

Sophy was also instructed by the Official Solicitor in the widely reported case of the London Borough of Hillingdon and Stephen Neary (by his litigation friend the Official Solicitor) and Mark Neary and the Equality and Human Rights Commission [2011] EWHC 1377 (COP).
