Phil Walsh- Practice Manager
Having gained extensive experience in law management Phil became Miles and Partner’s first Practice Manager in 2004. In the same year he set up an outreach legal advice clinic for victims of domestic violence in partnership with Southwark Victim Support. He is a member of Resolution.
Isabel Fuentes - Financial Manager
Isabel is a graduate of the University of La Coruña. She came to the UK in 1997. She has worked in the field of Legal Accounting since 1999. She joined Miles and Partners as Financial Manager in May 2005 and is responsible for the general administration of the firm’s financial functions.

Family Department
Dee Aktar – Solicitor
Admitted 2007. Dee completed her training with Miles and Partners in 2007. She acts for clients seeking help with private law family problems including disputes concerning children. Dee has a particular interest in Domestic Violence and works closely with local agencies in assisting clients who require the emergency protection of the Courts. Dee is a fluent speaker of Bengali.
Sarah Cove – Partner and Joint Head of Family Department
Admitted 1993 - Sarah is a specialist children’s lawyer mainly acting for children in Care Proceedings. She is a member of the Law Society’s Children Panel and is a Resolution Accredited Specialist. She is also a member of the Association of Lawyers for Children.
Amanda Dench - Partner and Joint Head of Family Department
Admitted 1990 – Amanda specializes in all areas of the law relating to children and has a particular interest in public law Care proceedings and private law children proceedings where domestic violence is an issue. She is a member of Resolution and is a Resolution Accredited Specialist. She is also a member of the Law Society Family Law Panel and the Association of Lawyers for Children.
Kate Hammond - Solicitor
Admitted 2002 - Kate specialises in all aspects of the law relating to children. She is a member of the Law Society's Children Panel, Resolution and the Association of Lawyers for children.
David Jockelson – Consultant Solicitor
Admitted 1980 – David has specialised in Family Law, especially Care Proceedings, for 20 years. He is a member of Resolution and the Law Society’s Children Panel. He has been a Committee Member of the Association of Lawyers for Children. David is also a trained counselor and parenting coach.
Filiz Kilic - Solicitor
Admitted 2004- Filiz undertakes all aspects of family law work including public and private children law work, divorce and domestic violence cases; she has a particular interest in public law care proceedings and specialises in care work. She is a member of the Association of Lawyers for Children. Filiz is also fluent in Turkish. Michelle Uppal – Solicitor
Admitted 2000 - Michelle specialises in a broad range of family work especially the financial aspects of divorce and relationship breakdown. Michelle represents clients in medium to high net worth financial cases. She also advises on the increasingly complex legal financial implications for clients in non marital relationships. She has extensive experience of private law disputes relating to children including abduction and jurisdictional issues. Michelle is a member of Resolution and is a Resolution Accredited Specialist in advance financial provision and private children matters. Michelle is also a trained collaborative Lawyer and this places her among a growing group of lawyers pioneering new approaches to alternative dispute resolution in family cases.
Natalie Friday - Solicitor
Admitted 2004 - Natalie’s areas of practice cover a broad range of financial cases including financial provision for children and other areas of law affecting financial disputes following relationship breakdown, such as applications for maintenance within Divorce Proceedings and the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996. Natalie is also experienced in private law children matters, including Specific Issue, Prohibited Steps, Contact, Residence, Parental Responsibility and applications within Hague Convention Proceedings. Natalie also represents clients requiring the protection of the Court from Domestic Violence in applications for Non-Molestation and Occupation orders. Natalie is committed the use of mediation in the resolution of family law disputes where appropriate. Natalie is a member of Resolution and a fluent speaker of Italian and German.
Zoe Fleetwood - Solictor
Admitted as a Solicitor in 2003 Zoë Fleetwood specialises in Family Law and general litigation. Her practice covers the whole range of family matters for both married and unmarried couples. She resolves property and financial disputes upon relationship breakdown both through the court process and by negotiation. She recognises that relationship breakdown is a stressful time for those involved and uses her energy to resolves matters swiftly and amicably where possible. Her caseload includes divorce, medium to high net worth matrimonial disputes, Schedule 1 Children Act claims, contact and residence disputes (on behalf of parents, grandparents and step-parents and other parties), applications for disclosure of the whereabouts of a child, prohibited steps orders, Trust of Land Act applications, adoption, wardship, domestic violence, freezing order applications, transfer of tenancy and Inheritance Act claims. She also prepares consent orders, pre-nuptial agreements, cohabitation agreements, trust deeds, separation agreements, legal charges, and other legal documents. Zoë is a member of Resolution, the Law Society’s Children Panel and the Association of Lawyers for Children. Membership of Resolution commits family lawyers to resolving disputes in a non-confrontational and constructive way and Resolution members adhere to a code of practice. Hayder Al-Hassan - Partner - Head of Housing Department
Admitted 1991 – Hayder specialises in housing law and community Care related issues. He is a member of the Housing Law Practitioners Association. He works mainly in the areas of homelessness, allocations and human rights. Former Chair of the Rights Shop (Bethnal Green).
Simon Marciniak – Solicitor
Admitted 2004 - Simon has experience of housing cases at all levels up to and including the Court of Appeal and is currently working towards a qualification in higher rights of audience. Simon has a particular interest in the law as it affects single homelessness applicants. Simon also speaks French and Portuguese.

Sophy Miles – Managing Partner and Head of Mental Health Department.
Admitted 1989 - Sophy has been a member of the Law Society’s Mental Health Review Tribunal Panel since 1996. She advises and represents users of Mental Health services and their families and Carers about detention in hospital, treatment and afterCare. She also acts in cases where the Court is asked to decide the best interests of people who do not have the capacity to take important decisions themselves. She sits as a part-time Legal Member of the Mental Health Review Tribunal. Recent cases include JE v (1) DE (by his litigation friend the Official Solicitor) (2) SCC (3) EW[2006]EWHC 3459 (Fam). Sophy was also shortlisted for the Legal Aid Practitioner's Group 2007 Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year award in the Mental Health category.
